Mudhutter Corona Special

2020-05-23T12:45:11+01:00

No football means no printed fanzine.

By way of scant recompense, we’ve put together a Corona Special, and it is available as a free download.

Some of it you may have seen before, most you won’t.

Anyway, it’s 67 pages, and you can download it, together with some old specials we did, HERE

MFE Issue 76

2020-02-21T18:15:54+00:00

Your new Mudhutter is about to hit the streets. So what is in it? In what is an uncanny attempt or art mirroring life, it seems to be full of tales about people who want to see a football match but end up disappointed. It is an eclectic read with articles on subjects as versatile as hockey (no, come back!), family history, going the pictures, bizarre football tours and unofficial Neighbourhood watch schemes. Yes, there is some football but then who on earth wants to talk too much about the current dross we are watching. Better to let us vent our spleen at any other manner of random subjects.

It’s 44 pages and will be on sale tomorrow before the Millwall game from all the usual spots/ If you want a copy, then you can do that here

[add a rabble rousing “up the tics” on the end and some positive fluff blah blah blah…yeah that’ll do]

Cheers

The Mudhuts team

MFE Issue 75

2020-01-10T16:14:59+00:00

Happy New Year from the Mudhuts Bunker!

We’ve a new issue out tomorrow and we pore over the good, the bad and ugly of the last year and indeed the last decade. There’s a wonderfully diverse selection of articles to back that up including a trip to Espanyol, and a look back at the raiding of Springfield Park. We look at the art of captaincy along with art of drinking cans,  social media over-reactions to football (and life). Loads of news, loads of features from all your lovable crew, we are STILL just two English pounds as we hit our three quarter of a century mark!

You can catch us on the bridge or outside Rigalettos before the game tomorrow or we will be in all the usual pubs (Brickmakers, Wigan Central, Northern Beer Temple) or shops (Sparks Newsagent on Wallgate, Waterstones and Mesnes Road News)

The latest issue is now on sale HERE if you want to buy online and get it hand delivered, assuming you don’t set your dog on the postie.

Much love,

The Mudhuts Team

MFE Issue 74

Mudhutter issue 74 on sale this weekend

Q. What’s A5 sized, has 52 pages and costs two quid?

A. The programme?

I give up!

So the fanzine, not the programme is out this weekend. Mudhutter issue 74 no less and it’s a whopping 52 pages packed full of riveting raconteurial writing, as our new directors would probably say. Gor blimey, guv’nor it’s so big we can barely fit it in an envelope, we must be mad!!

There’s 52 pages full of reflection, direction, delectation and provocation with telly and music features along with Latics comment and articles past and present. News, views, interviews and invariable sprinklings of pathos and nostalgia. I mean why on earth would we want to be topical? There’s barely any mention of our shit away form at all is there…erm….

There’s no point even attempting a hard sell, you know what you’re getting by now and if you don’t know what you’re getting, why not live dangerously and spend two quid. After all, what’s the worst you can lose? A. Two Quid.

We’ll be selling around the ground before the Forest game on Sunday and it will be in the usual stockists prior to that.

If you want to buy a copy online, then just follow this linky winky

And it’s not too late to take out a full subscription for a tenner (£7 digital) if I manage to retrieve some beer stained returns this weekend.. You’ll get this new issue, the last issue and three more to come. Click here for details

Thanking you for your unwavering, almost stalker-like support

Ps. I’ve no idea what pathos means, it just sounded good

MFE Issue 73

2019-08-30T18:31:26+01:00

This is my world. That’s what the lovely gentleman in the middle of our cover seems to be saying, who as many of you will know, has sadly passed away recently.

This is our world. This is our football club. This is our fanzine. And of course, there is a melancholy touch to this latest issue of the Mudhutter, with so many notable Latics soldiers passing away over the summer, but we are also upbeat about the new season, somehow. Perhaps stuff like this puts football into perspective maybe?

So what have we got for you? We’ve got 48 packed, pages of Latics, football, music, cricket and other random stuff. We discuss our current plight, say goodbye to players’ past, run the rule over VAR and there’s a surreal tale about a Latics fan abroad. We talk holidays and lots of stuff about Leeds, including a review of the walk. Plus all the usual features and cartoons from the usual battle weary suspects.

Issue 73 is still TWO QUID and available NOW from all the usual stockists. You can also catch your ever so friendly sellers parading their wares before the Barnsley game on Saturday.

If you want to buy a printed or digital copy, then wander on over to the shop.

Alternatively, we are still offering seasonal subscriptions whereby you can get the next 5 issues delivered to your door or inbox from now till next May. We have had an unprecedented take up in subs, with over 85 people supporting us from the outset and there’s still just about time to join them.

It’s really easy to add the subscription to your basket. It’s £7 for a digital subscription or £10 for printed version, with free postage and packaging (which is probably worth more than the magazine, what with the price of stamps these days tbh)

However you choose to buy our humble little product, can we just give out our eternal thanks to you all for your continued support and with that it’s time to get to the Post Office, and annoy the lengthy queue behind me once more

Mudhutter Fanzine Subscription 2019-20

2019-07-15T17:02:55+01:00

There’s a lot written about whether fanzines are on the rise or decline. Certainly sales are falling as are the number of different fanzines but there is still a core that are remarkably resilient.

And that resilience comes from the people who buy it as much as the people who give up their time to produce it. Which is where you come in. Last year, we had over 60 print and digital subscribers. We’d love to have the same again this year.

The bottom line is that by you paying us up front for the whole season, it makes us accountable. We can’t get lazy or do a runner with your money. Oh hang on, yes we can! Note to Migs: why don’t we just do a runner with the money? Er and delete that bit before we put the story up.

Ahem, seriously. We enjoy doing what we do and knowing that you support us, whether you are a subscriber or you buy one off us at the match or in the pubs and shops, keeps us going. Without you, we are nothing. Or at least, we are a bunch of pointless fools churning out nonsense on paper purely to satisfy our own massive egos.

Anyway, enough preamble. This season’s subscription deal is now online HERE. It is the same deal as last year: £10 for five copies with free postage and packaging, which to be brutally honest, nearly costs as much as the fanzine these days if we hit 48 pages, so you’re getting a good old deal. Albeit, you might receive it a day later if we miss the Friday post. But at least it is pristine and hasn’t been folded up in your jeans pocket. Swings and roundabouts really. I’m not selling it very well am I?

But then, why should we? We’re just offering more of the same as we have done for the past fifteen years. If you know what you are getting and you want more of it, then your subscription renewal will be gleefully received and recorded on our spreadsheet. It’s £10 for five issues delivered to your door or £7 for a digital version delivered to your inbox.

So come with us once more as we spend the next nine months telling people it’s not the programme once more…….

MFE Issue 72

2019-04-22T11:24:52+01:00

Welcome to the last Mudhutter of the season. 44 pages of beautiful, heartfelt content about this and that. Let’s get things out of the way first: the football may have taken a turn for the better (though that may have changed again by the time you read this) but the sentiment remains. We’ll all be their next season right?

We certainly will. It is quite the eclectic mix this issue, but then who wants to read 44 pages of moaning about what was quite a dismal season up until a week ago. So instead we bring you an interview with a former Liverpool keeper with Latics links, more on walking football, great transit van tales from days gone by with Bagg, how to buy a pet and a look at Gil Heron, Celtic’s first black footballer. Plus loads of the usual nonsense from the usual contributors.

We will be selling on the bridge today (Monday 22nd April) at the Preston game and it will be in the shops and in the post over the following couple of days. I’ve had a bit of other stuff to do, to be honest.

Anyway, here is the cover and if you want to buy online, here’s where you can do it

Ah yes, the cover, mixed reviews that one, as you can imagine.

At this point, can I say on behalf of everyone, thanks massively for your support this season, and we’ll see you in August.

MFE Issue 71

2019-02-22T17:33:23+00:00

New issue, same old issues

Well, to be honest, there is a mood of tentative optimism in Issue 71 of the MFE. We give a cautious review of the new owners’ work to date, whilst mourning the loss of Will Grigg and extol Reece James to the highest virtue. There’s a piece on walking football, the travels of The Alfie Lund Fund, World Cup commentators of years gone by and collecting elusive programmes. Plus there’s more offbeat stuff about musical genres, Blue Coats school and rubbish graffiti (now there’s a surprise!) and the possible motives behind doing such a thing.

It’s priced at just two quid as usual and you can pick up one before the game tomorrow, on the bridge or outside Rigalettos. It will also be on sale in all the usual stockists by kick off time.

Want to buy it online? Then get yourself a pristine copy delivered to your door, clad head to toe in PVC.

Thanks once again to everyone who helped to make it happen and buys a copy to help fund this nonsense. As Brit winner Pink might say, “you guys rocccckkkkkk!” As Jimmy from Wigan, would say “tha’s belting”
